Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Cardiothoracic ICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of CVICU/CTICU experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Cardio Thoracic ICU setting using a universal bed model, with staff also caring for step-down patients
• Typical patient ratio of 1:1-2
• Night shift schedule of 3x12s or 4x12s (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating required
• Holiday coverage required, including two of three winter holidays
• Cannot accommodate block scheduling
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active VA or Compact RN license in hand at time of consideration, no exceptions
• BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Minimum 2 years of CVICU/CTICU experience required
• Proficiency in Epic required
• Strong neuro experience required, including post brain surgery and EVD/ventriculostomy care
• Skilled in arterial line, central line, and PICC line management
• Experience with blood product administration and IV starts
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, and procedural sedation administration
• Experience with FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with CABG, IABP, Impella, and pre/post cardiac cath/intervention care
• Experience with post cardiac surgery patients, both directly from the OR and not directly from the OR
• Experience with Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and CVVHD/CRRT
• Experience with CVA/acute stroke management
• Experience managing BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and ventilated patients
• Skilled in ABG interpretation and ETT/NT suctioning
• Experience with multi-system organ failure management
• Experience with infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE use
• Experience with surgical wounds, drains, and wound vac care
• No history of license or background hits accepted
• Cannot accommodate PAPR use for fit testing
• Must pass EKG proficiency testing with 80% or higher, single attempt only, no remediation available

Additional Information

• Provide direct cardiothoracic ICU-level care, including management of complex cardiac and neuro patients
• Located in the Coastal Virginia region near Virginia Beach and Norfolk, offering access to hiking trails and waterways
• 3 hours of billable modules required, completed prior to start date
• Requested time off must be submitted for review and is approved on a case-by-case basis
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for this position
• Travel experience is preferred but not required, so first-time travelers may be considered
