Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Short Stay Unit position requiring at least 1 year of gen med/surg experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

• Acute care setting in a 13-bed Short Stay Unit
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5
• Fast-paced, high patient turnover department
• Patient population includes stroke, trauma, cardiac, and general medical diagnoses (UTI, COPD, cellulitis)
• Uses EPIC EMR
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• RNs use Bi-pap, C-pap (PRN or nights), and high flow equipment for troubleshooting only
• House-wide telemetry monitoring via Phillips Monitoring; RNs not required to read EKG strips
• Charge RN on all shifts who also takes a patient assignment, plus 24/7 House Supervisor
• PCTs on unit: 2 on days, 1 on nights, assisting with patient care, vitals, accu checks, and hourly rounding
• 12-hour day shifts (0700-1930)
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts within a 6-week schedule
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Travelers are first to float; if floated to higher acuity units without experience, used in a team nursing support role

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• General med/surg experience required
• BSN not required
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care within a general medical/surgical short stay unit
• Unit-specific orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor
• Holiday coverage required for every other holiday
• No specific scrub color required; scrubs not provided; pediatric scrub tops should be avoided
• Local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, though no radius rule restricts eligibility
