Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of experience and an IN or compact RN license in hand.

Details

• Work in the lone medsurg unit within a community hospital setting
• Unit receives patients from OR, ED, and downgrades from ICU/PCU
• Average 8-12 admissions to the unit over a 24-hour period
• Unit goal is a 5:1 patient ratio with charge out of staffing, though flexing to 6:1 occurs
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30
• Every other weekend coverage required
• Floating required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital, primarily for medsurg patients in ICU/PCU or ED holds

Requirements

• Active RN license (IN or Compact) required and must be in hand prior to start
• BLS certification required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience with telemetry and cardiac monitoring preferred
• Experience with skills such as IV therapy, wound care, and respiratory management (BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes) preferred
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
• 2 supervisor references required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care to a diverse patient population including orthopedic, neurological, and substance withdrawal cases
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are accepted, provided they have more than 2 years of experience
• Local candidates residing in Indiana are not accepted for this position
• Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment must take a designated break to reset eligibility: 90 days for out-of-state residents and 180 days for in-state residents
