Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a Correctional unit position requiring IL licensure and prior correctional experience.

Details

• Correctional facility setting within Cook County health services
• Med/Surg patient population within a correctional environment
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend required (2 weekends per month)
• No block scheduling accommodations or special scheduling requests
• Mandatory float facility; floating within scope and specialty required at facility discretion, including to other units and outside primary competency with team-based support
• May be required to float to other Cook facilities within 50 miles, with as little as 2 hours notice
• Uses Cerner charting system

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required in hand at time of consideration (no pending licenses accepted)
• Current BLS certification
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience required
• Correctional nursing experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Skilled in isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac, IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, cardiac monitoring, and emergency response
• Experience with oxygen administration, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Two professional references required prior to start, from most recent employers, one per employer
• Proof of COVID vaccination required with no exceptions

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to Med/Surg patients in a correctional health setting
• Participate in code team and rapid response activities as needed
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Free, first-come first-served parking available
• RTO limited to 5 days max with no more than 2 consecutive days, and no RTO on weekends
• No holiday RTO and no RTO the day before or after a holiday
• Local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius of the facility at a reduced rate
• Returning resources must undergo full recredentialing and orientation, even after breaks in contract of less than 30 days
• First-time travelers are not considered for this position
• Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
