Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position requiring 2+ years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit with 1:6 patient ratios
• Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and surgical recovery cases
• Night shift 6:45pm-7:15am, 4x12 hour shifts with 36 or 48 hour options
• 13-26 week contracts accepted
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required to main campus approximately 32 minutes away
• Uses Pyxis medication system

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS
• ACLS certification preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, and Rapid Response/Code team protocols required
• Experience with bowel obstruction, ostomy care, feeding tube management, hemodialysis management, renal failure, and blood product administration required
• Skilled in central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral IV care, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs required
• Experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA management required
• Skilled in chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management required
• Experience with wound care and wound vac management required
• Isolation precautions and PPE proficiency required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit including dysrhythmia monitoring and management
• Assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
• 24-hour unit orientation with weekly orientation schedule
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue or white
• RTO capped at 7 days maximum per contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at a reduced rate within 50 miles of the facility
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover perm/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs allowed with independent transportation and differing schedules accommodated
