Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Stepdown/Medsurg unit requiring EPIC experience and at least 1 year of nursing experience.

Details

• Acute care setting on a 29-bed Stepdown/Medsurg unit currently under construction, with all beds becoming stepdown-equipped in early 2026
• Flex unit serving both floor and stepdown patients based on patient and hospital needs
• Diverse medical patient population
• Patient ratios of 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for floor assignments
• RNs administer titratable and set-rate drips including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, and PCAs (morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl), and TPN
• Respiratory equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and HiFlow; ventilators seen in stepdown but adjusted by ICU staff
• Remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring on unit using Phillips telemetry equipment; RNs not required to read their own strips
• 12-hour night shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled
• No call or standby requirements
• Priority floating to other floor/stepdown units as needed

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Open to both new and experienced nurses
• Ability to manage a 6-patient med-surg or 3-patient stepdown assignment

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a flex unit supporting both floor and stepdown patients
• Charge RNs and House Supervisors available 24/7; charge RNs may take a patient assignment when the unit first opens
• Unit supported by Clinical Associates (CAs) with a goal ratio of 1 CA to 10 patients
• Expect to work approximately half of all WVUH recognized holidays
• Scrub requirement: any combination of royal blue and white
• First-time travelers and new graduates are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted only outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Returning WVU Medicine travelers must complete a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine facilities for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break, with cumulative experience applied
