Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PICU position on 12-hour night shifts, requiring 2+ years of PICU experience and PALS certification.

Details

• Work in a 16-bed PICU within a 152-bed Level II trauma center with Level IV NICU
• Overflow beds interchangeable with MedSurg, covering neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical patients
• Patient population includes respiratory conditions (high flow, CPAP, BiPAP), trachs, chemo, RSV, asthma, and Covid patients
• Care for medical patients with MIS-C, new onset diabetes with insulin drips, chronic illness, and oncology needs
• Manage trauma patients including falls and MVAs, and surgical cases such as appendectomies, g-tubes, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, broken bones, VP shunts, cardiac, and neuro cases
• Care for congenital heart defect patients from surgery through discharge
• Stat categories 1, 2, 3, and occasionally 4
• Does not manage solid organ transplant, major burns, or stem cell transplant patients
• CRRT experience with Prismax preferred, though volume is low and typically handled by core staff
• ECMO patients present on unit, managed by dedicated ECMO specialist
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Floating required to MedSurg, ED, or NICU as Helping Hands or Constant Observer
• 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), scheduled every other weekend
• 36 hours per week

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license
• Current BLS and PALS certification
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
• Skilled in aseptic and sterile techniques, dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, and suctioning
• Experience with g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, and chest tubes
• Experience with epidurals, PCAs, drip management, and Foley insertion/management
• Discharge planning skills required
• CICU experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct bedside care across a wide range of pediatric acuities including respiratory, cardiac, surgical, trauma, and oncology patients
• Any scrub color accepted, but hooded shirts and long sleeves are not permitted unless they can be pulled above the elbow
• Severe facial wounds, eye injuries, or penetrating trauma are transferred to a Level 1 Trauma Center
