Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center requiring 3 years of ICU experience with neuro or CV background and AZ/compact RN licensure.

Details

• Level 1 Trauma Center acute care setting with Surgical ICU (Trauma Neuro Surgery) and Medical ICU (Medical Cardiac + Overflow) units
• 32-bed Surgical ICU and 36-bed Medical Cardiac ICU plus 12-bed overflow unit
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:2 and 1:1
• Patient population includes level 1 trauma, falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs, ex-lap, crani, specialty neurosurgery, CVA, post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, ARDS, on/off pump CABG, valves, post caths, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, tandem heart, and esophagectomies
• RNs required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin
• Charge nurse does not take patients
• No nurse aides on unit, only sitters and health unit secretary support
• Hospitalist/intensivist and RT in-house 24/7
• RT equipment includes Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPap, and Airvo
• No monitor techs on unit; RNs interpret own telemetry strips using GE monitors
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Day shift schedule with self-scheduling, subject to manager balancing for unit needs
• 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (night shift weekends Friday-Saturday, day shift weekends Saturday-Sunday) or up to 3 weekends per month if unit is busy
• First to float among assigned units, including float to telemetry at 1:3 or 1:4 ratio and between sister ICUs (Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, and overflow ICU)
• No additional call/standby requirement, though low census may occur up to 3 times per contract
• 36 guaranteed hours per week over 12-hour shifts
• 13-week assignment length with 12 hours of orientation

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required, including at least 2 years in ICU specifically
• Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular ICU care
• Level 1 trauma or neuro experience preferred but not required
• Prior experience in a similarly sized ICU preferred
• Must pass a UNA Dysrhythmia exam 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (maximum 2 attempts)
• Must pass a pass/fail sterile technique skills lab on day 1 of orientation
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to trauma, neuro, and cardiovascular ICU patients in a Level 1 Trauma Center
• Skills for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will be validated as needed
• May have 1 holiday off during the assignment
• Navy scrub color required
• 1-2 days of unit/department specific orientation provided
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
