Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma acute care hospital, requiring 3 years of recent ICU experience with neuro or CV background and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Details

• Level 1 trauma ICU setting with 32 beds specializing in trauma and neuro-surgery, plus sister medical/cardiac ICUs (36 bed + 12 bed overflow)
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:1
• Night shift schedule with every other weekend or up to 3 weekends/month if unit is busy
• Weekend shifts are Friday-Saturday for nights and Saturday-Sunday for days
• 1 holiday off during the assignment
• Float to telemetry units at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed, with expectation to float among all 3 ICUs
• No additional call or standby requirement, though may be low-censused up to 3 times per contract
• Uses Cerner EMR
• GE cardiac monitors with RNs required to interpret their own telemetry strips
• Ventilator and respiratory equipment includes Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPap, and Airvo
• 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist and respiratory therapy coverage
• Self-scheduling available, with manager balancing shifts as needed for unit coverage

Requirements

• Active AZ state or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required, including at least 2 years in ICU specifically
• Experience in either neuro or CV ICU care required
• Level 1 trauma or prior neuro ICU experience preferred but not required
• Must be able to titrate common drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, dopamine, heparin, and insulin
• Must pass a UNA Dysrhythmia exam 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (maximum 2 attempts)
• Must pass a pass/fail sterile technique Sim Lab test on Day 1 of orientation
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to trauma, neuro-surgical, cardiac, and medical ICU patients including falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs, CVA, sepsis, ARDS, CABG, valves, TAVR, IABP, Impella, and ECMO cases
• Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment
• No dedicated nurse aides on the unit; sitters and health unit secretaries are used instead
• 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation provided
• Navy scrub color required
• Skills will be validated for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
