Description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for a night shift acute care position requiring Epic experience and independent strip interpretation skills.

Details

• Acute care Level 3 trauma center, Telemetry unit on the 2nd floor with 35 beds
• Part of a monitor pod including Tele, Tele-Observation, and Tele-Neuro Stroke units
• Patient population includes cardiac/tele cases such as CHF, post-CABG, Watchman procedures, dysrhythmias, and EP cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 for both day and night shifts
• Uses MEDITECH EMR, though position is for an Epic conversion requiring Epic experience
• 12-hour night shifts (6:45p-6:45a), every other weekend (Fri/Sat nights)
• Self-scheduling available but finalized by manager, block scheduling allowed
• Floats primarily within the 3 monitor pods, occasionally to MedSurg for tele patients only, and may float between Bryan and College Station campuses (16 minutes apart)
• Travelers are first to float
• No call or standby requirements
• RNs are not required to titrate drips, only administer set rate drips (Cardizem, Dobutamine, Milrinone, Amiodarone, Dopamine) per protocol
• Dedicated Tele/Monitor Techs staffed 24/7, though RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips
• Charge nurse is typically supernumerary on days; night charge nurse may take an assignment of 2-3 patients if short staffed

Requirements

• Active TX RN license or compact license required
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
• 1-2 years of telemetry nursing experience required
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Must pass the Basic Dysrhythmia exam (83%) prior to contract start, with up to three attempts allowed
• Neuro and cardiac experience preferred but not required
• Epic EMR experience required due to facility conversion
• Must be willing to precept
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry nursing care within a Joint Commission-certified heart attack and stroke center with intervention capabilities
• Home base is the Bryan campus with potential floating to the College Station campus
• Holiday coverage required for 2 major holidays (eve and day for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's) and 2 minor holidays
• Dress code requires navy scrubs with navy undershirts; navy scrub jackets are optional
• Orientation includes a half-day with HR and unit educator followed by two shifts orienting with a floor nurse
• Strong team communication and collaboration across the three monitor units
• Travelers are welcomed and often extend assignments for a year or more
• Manager and unit resources are readily accessible to support travelers
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may impact continued assignment eligibility
