Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a Surgical Short Stay unit requiring NC or compact RN licensure and 2 years of Med/Surg experience.
Details
- Surgical Short Stay unit with 12 beds caring for adult surgical patients
- Most patients admitted from PACU and stay less than 24 hours, with some pre-op and inpatient surgical admissions
- Patient population spans colorectal, endoscopic, general, GYN, maxillofacial, neurologic, orthopedic, plastic, urologic, and vascular surgical services
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, 19:00-07:00
- Every other weekend required (12 weekend night shifts per contract)
- Floating required as needed to inpatient surgery floors, inpatient holding areas, or medical floors
- Uses specialized equipment including CBI, Doppler ultrasound, BD Alaris Infusion System with Large Volume Pump and PCA Module, JP drains, Medela Wound Vac System, and Prevena Wound Vac System
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
- Short stay unit experience required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Additional Information
- Care for patients with a range of functional statuses and surgical conditions across multiple service lines
- May be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
- Consolidation to a centralized office may occur mid-contract with potential unit reassignment
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days RTO auto-approved per contract as long as it doesn't fall on a holiday, with no RTO permitted during the first week
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler, with facility rehire approval required
- Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Weekly orientation provided
- Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually thereafter
