Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring current telemetry experience and NIHSS certification for a night shift assignment.
Details
- 41-bed progressive care trauma/telemetry unit caring for adult surgical trauma patients recovering from traumatic injuries requiring surgical intervention
- Patient population includes those with gunshot wounds, penetrating injuries, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4, flexing up to 1:5 as needed
- Telemetry monitoring available for up to 14 patients
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
- 36 hours per week
- 6 weekend shifts required per every 6-week schedule
- Interdisciplinary support includes IV Team, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Team, Pharmacy, Transportation, and Unit Secretary
- Floating to other units or campuses may be required based on census needs, limited to units where competency has been demonstrated
Requirements
- Active RN license (SC or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU/telemetry experience required
- 2+ years of specialty experience required for first-time travelers
- Minimum 1 year of experience with EPIC EMR required
- Skills in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, central/peripheral line care, blood product administration, and IV therapy
- Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care
- Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide progressive care nursing to adult trauma patients recovering from surgical intervention
- Utilize rapid response and code teams as needed for patient emergencies
- Orientation held every Monday with annual compliance training required
- Pre-assignment testing and training modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
- Medication test required as part of unit-specific competency
- Travelers must reside more than 100 miles from any Prisma Health facility to be eligible, with a mileage exception allowing 50+ miles from the contracted campus for night shift progressive care and telemetry specialties
- First-time travelers considered with 2+ years of specialty experience
