Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a post-surgical acute care unit requiring at least 1 year of experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

• Post-surgical Med/Surg Tele unit within an acute care hospital setting, Trauma Level 2
• 15-bed unit treating post-surgical patients including Ortho, Urology, GYN/ONC, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, ENT, Plastics, and GI cases, as well as acute medical admissions with short anticipated stays
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 (0700-1900) and 1:5-6 (1900-0730)
• Nursing assistants present with ratios of 1:8-12 from 0630-1900; RNs take lower ratios on nights without a nursing assistant
• Telemetry monitoring present with strips read remotely by technicians using GE tele. system
• RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, and occasionally Nitro, Cardizem, and insulin
• Respiratory therapy support present for CPAP, BIPAP, and High Flow Oxygen Therapy (no ventilators)
• Charge nurse takes an assignment on all shifts, with house supervisor coverage on all shifts
• 12-hour day shifts, including 0700-1930, 1100-2330, and 2300-0700 rotations
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Experience titrating drips required
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to post-surgical and acute medical patients on a busy Med/Surg Tele unit
• Unit orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation based on skills
• Any color scrubs accepted as long as clean and professional
• Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
• Former permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission and require facility approval to return
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling provided to the best ability based on staffing needs
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
