Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Level 2 trauma center, requiring an active IL RN license and 2 years of experience.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 37 beds, combination of private and semi-private rooms
• Patient ratios: day shift 1:4-6, night shift 1:5-6, with CNA support at 1:10-15
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 7p-7:30a
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) for both day and night shifts
• No on-call requirements
• Uses EPIC EMR
• May require floating to other floors with full patient assignment if competency allows
• Common diagnoses include COPD, sepsis, CVA, COVID, pneumonia, and surgical cases (hips, knees, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, bowel resections)
• Unit accepts telemetry patients monitored centrally, with common drips including Lasix and Heparin
• No ventilator patients on unit, though BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow patients are cared for
• 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage available
• In-house hospitalist coverage on day shift, with APN and eHospitalist coverage overnight

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required (or confirmation that application process has been initiated)
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit within a Level 2 trauma facility
• Charge nurses typically available 24/7 and may take patient assignments as needed
• Floor-specific orientation includes 2 days in the department and 1 day of hospital/EMR orientation
• No specific scrub color required; approved OSF logo gear may be worn with scrub pants
• May be required to work every other holiday depending on schedule
• Self-scheduling is available, though manager will set schedules due to short contract length, with attempts made to accommodate block scheduling
• Requested time off must be submitted at time of consideration
• COVID vaccination is not required for this position
