Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring telemetry strip-reading skills for floating.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 46 beds
• Patient ratio of 5:1 with charge nurse support (no patient assignment)
• Nurse aide ratios of 1:12 days and 1:14 nights
• Cerner EMR used for charting
• 12-hour night shifts, shift times 1830-0700 or 0630-1900
• Every other weekend required
• First to float, with floating to MedSurg 5, Tele 7, and Rehab units
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, ESRD, cellulitis, GI issues, gunshot/stab wounds, abdominal drains, and trauma-related neuro issues
• Common drips administered include heparin and blood products
• Potential use of BiPAP/CPAP at night, though ventilators are not managed on this unit
• 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy support

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand, no pending licenses accepted
• BLS certification required
• Chemo certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must be able to read telemetry strips for floating assignments to Med/Tele units
• Nursys license verification required
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• One shift of floor-specific orientation provided with a preceptor
• Scrub color for RNs is navy blue, aides wear hunter green
• Must be available to work 2-3 major holidays with RTO kept to a minimum
• Holiday coverage rotates with core staff
• First-time travelers may be considered
