Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 3 years of L&D experience and both Kansas and Missouri or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Work in a combined Labor & Delivery/Postpartum unit with 11 labor rooms, 5 triage rooms, and 15 postpartum rooms plus 2 flex rooms
• Night shift schedule of 4x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1, but may be 1:2 or 1:3 for antepartum/cervical ripening patients based on acuity
• Average daily census of 7-10 patients with facility birth volume of 100-300 per month
• Weekend requirement of 4-5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus minimum 2 Sunday night or 2 Friday day shifts per 6-week schedule
• On-call requirement of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule period
• May float to postpartum unit to provide couplet or postpartum-only care
• May float between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Not required to work OB triage
• Uses PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors
• Epic charting system required

Requirements

• Active RN license required; both Kansas and Missouri licenses or compact license must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current certifications: BLS, FHM, NRP (AWHONN Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced preferred)
• Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience required, with 2 years of recent in-specialty experience and no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
• Epic charting system experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• LDRP experience preferred; LD/LDR experience alone also considered
• Skilled in antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care including high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, preterm labor, and multiple gestation
• Experience with fetal monitoring including EFM, internal fetal monitoring, spiral electrode placement, and IUPC placement/calibration
• Experience assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and recovering C-section patients
• Skilled in medication administration including Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
• Travel healthcare experience required
• Two professional references required from the past year, one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum patient populations
• Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, C-section circulation and recovery, and management of obstetric emergencies
• Support newborn care including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, and thermoregulation
• Provide postpartum care including lactation support, fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, and wound care
• Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel position
• Maximum RTO of 7 days permitted, must be finalized at time of consideration with no changes after offer
• Returning staff must observe an 18-month tenure requirement with a 3-month break in service
• Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a travel clinician
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Travel partners are not accepted
• Compliance documents due 2 Fridays before start date, with required EMR training modules completed prior to start
