Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift position requiring 3+ years of L&D experience and prior travel assignment history.

Details

• Combined Labor & Delivery and Postpartum unit within the same physical space
• L&D unit houses antepartum and intrapartum patients across 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms
• Postpartum unit includes 15 rooms plus 2 flex rooms usable for labor or postpartum patients
• Facility performs 100-300 births per month
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:45-7:15)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1, though may be 1:2 or 1:3 depending on antepartum or cervical ripening acuity
• Weekend requirement of 4-5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus minimum 2 Sunday night or 2 Friday day shifts per 6-week schedule
• On-call requirement of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule
• Floating required to postpartum unit for couplet or postpartum-only care
• May require floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Uses PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active RN license (Missouri or Compact) in hand at time of consideration
• Both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact) required in hand due to potential floating between facilities
• Required certifications: BLS, Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), NRP
• Preferred certifications: AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, or AWHONN Beginner
• Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• Must have a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• LDRP experience preferred; LD/LDR experience alone will be considered
• Experience required in antepartum care, sterile vaginal exams, obstetrical triage, and use of external fetal heart monitoring
• Experience required with high-risk conditions including HELLP syndrome, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, preterm labor, malpresentations, multiple gestation, and Rh incompatibilities
• Experience required with VBAC management, spiral electrode placement, IUPC placement/calibration, and abnormal fetal heart rate pattern recognition
• Experience required with medication administration including Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, and insulin drips
• Experience required assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and managing hemorrhage/shock
• Experience required in postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, foley catheter management, and wound care
• Experience required with epidural and general anesthesia, opioid administration, and PCA pump use
• Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients including high-risk cases
• Assist with sterile speculum exams, reflex checks, and vaginal deliveries
• Support neonatal resuscitation and use of radiant warmers for thermoregulation
• Provide lactation and breastfeeding support to postpartum patients
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
• No travel partners accepted for this position
• Maximum RTO of 7 days; all time-off requests must be finalized at time of consideration
• Returning staff must observe an 18-month tenure policy with a required 3-month break in service
• Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
