Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 3+ years of specialty experience, prior travel experience, and both Missouri and Kansas or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Labor & Delivery unit shared physical space with postpartum, housing antepartum and intrapartum patients
• 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms; postpartum unit has 15 rooms plus 2 flex rooms for labor or postpartum patients
• Facility births average 100-300 per month
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1, may be 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity (antepartum/cervical ripening)
• Weekend requirement of 4-5 shifts per 6-week schedule, including minimum 2 Sunday nights or 2 Friday days per 6-week schedule
• On-call requirement of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule
• Floating required within scope to postpartum unit for couplet or postpartum-only care
• May float between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Uses PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active RN license (Missouri or Compact) required; both Kansas and Missouri or compact license must be in hand at time of consideration due to potential floating requirements
• Required certifications: BLS, FHM, NRP
• Preferred certifications: AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, or AWHONN Beginner
• Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• Must have a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• LDRP experience preferred; LD/LDR experience also considered
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Skilled in antepartum and intrapartum care, high-risk delivery assistance, fetal monitoring (external and internal), IUPC placement, and management of conditions such as pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, preterm labor, and VBAC
• Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
• Skilled in postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, wound care, and lactation support
• Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both within the past year
• SSN required at time of consideration

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient populations
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and high-risk delivery procedures
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and newborn assessments as needed
• Support patients with high-risk conditions including multiple gestation, placenta previa, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
• Maintain isolation precautions and PPE protocols
• Administer vaccines as required
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
• Maximum RTO of 7 days, finalized at time of consideration with no changes permitted after submission
• Prior BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a travel clinician; prior travel staff require an 18-month tenure with a 3-month break in service
• Travel partners not accepted
• Compliance documentation due 2 Fridays before start date, along with completion of required EMR training modules
