Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in a busy Acute Care unit, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Details

• Acute care Medical-Surgical unit with 31 beds, both private and semi-private rooms
• General medicine patients with various diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with surgical staffing up to 1:6 (days) and 1:7 (nights)
• RNs required to titrate Heparin drips
• 24-hour Charge RN and House Supervisor coverage, with Charge RN occasionally taking a patient assignment
• 3-4 PCTs on dayshift and 2-3 PCTs on nightshift, ratio 8-9:1 when unit is full
• Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP/CPAP support
• Telemetry patients monitored remotely via house-wide telemetry department using Phillips equipment
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with shift report at 7a and 7p
• Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights)
• Holiday rotation required per policy
• No call or standby requirement
• Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• 1+ year of hospital experience preferred
• ACLS preferred for Charge RN role
• Must be comfortable attempting IV starts, utilizing phlebotomy team for blood draws when unsuccessful
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• 24/7 in-house Hospitalist/Intensivist, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy support
• Pharmacy prepares all medications for administration
• Travel RNs typically complete two 12-hour orientation shifts with a unit preceptor
• Any color scrubs accepted, staff must provide their own; pediatric scrubs not permitted
• First-time travelers may be considered
• Local candidates accepted with reduced local rate applying to those within 50 miles of the facility
• Requested time off must be submitted at time of consideration
