Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit requiring prior travel and dedicated neuro unit experience.

Details

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience cases, with some medical overflow
• Day shift ratios of 1:4-5, night shift ratios of 1:5-6
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• Float rotation required within general unit; travelers floated outside the unit only for skills they are competent in and paired with a trained nurse
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7
• Nurse aide/patient care tech support present at varying ratios by shift
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs not required to read strips
• High flow RT equipment used occasionally for stable COVID patients

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Heparin drip titration experience required, based on PTT monitoring
• Must be able to titrate drips as part of patient care
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care within a dedicated neuro med-surg acute unit
• 2-day unit orientation including computer and unit-specific training with an educator, plus 1 day of patient care with a preceptor
• No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
• Local candidates accepted; local rate applies for candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• Requested time off must be submitted prior to assignment start
