Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a busy Level 2 trauma Emergency Department requiring TNCC, PALS, and prior ED experience.

Details

  • Level 2 trauma center Emergency Department seeing 150-180 patients daily
  • 33-bed main ED including 8 trauma/resuscitation beds and a 4-room behavioral health pod
  • Vertical care area used for lower acuity patients or as overflow pods
  • Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatric, including sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, GI bleeds, and trauma cases
  • Heavy trauma volume including stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls, especially in summer months
  • Complete stroke center accepting stroke patients up to 24 hours post symptom onset
  • Certified Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for critically ill children
  • Cardiac patient care supported by an on-site cardiac catheter lab
  • RN patient ratio of 1:4-5, LPN ratio of 1:4-5, ED Tech ratio of 1:10
  • 12-hour variable shifts including 0630-1900, 1000-2230, 1200-0030, 1400-0200, and 1830-0700
  • 36 hours per week with potential for every weekend depending on staffing needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas as a task nurse only, within scope of practice
  • Uses EPIC charting system, Omnicell, and Baxter IV pumps

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS certifications required; CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, excluding travel experience
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
  • Must be comfortable performing sexual assault evidence collection duties in rotation with permanent staff, including buccal swabs, fingernail scraping, clothing collection, and victim interviews (pelvic exams not required)
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Strong triage and ESI assessment skills required
  • Critical thinking and prioritization skills required for high-acuity patient care

Additional Information

  • Support staff includes ED Techs, Lead Tech, 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, 24/7 physician and NP coverage, radiology/CT, pharmacy tech, and security
  • May be asked to precept nursing students
  • Facility orientation includes 8 hours of NEO plus 4 hours of ED-specific education and a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit (three shifts for 48-hour contracts)
  • Holiday coverage required only if needed
  • Time off requests require manager approval, with no requests considered during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Travelers must live more than 100 miles from the facility
  • Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
