Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring ortho experience, Epic proficiency, and NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Med/Surg Tele unit caring for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients
- Average daily census of 37 with 39 beds/rooms
- Patient ratios typically 5-6:1, flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
- 12-hour day shifts, 06:45-19:15, with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Block scheduling available (F/S/S or S/S/M)
- Required to float to other med-surg units based on census needs
- Every other weekend required, with missed weekend shifts made up on another weekend
- Fast-paced unit focused on pain management for ortho and spine patients
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending acceptable at time of submission
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years inpatient acute care experience required, including at least 1 year of ortho experience
- Epic charting experience required
- Skills in IV starts and telemetry monitoring required
- Experience with hip and trauma hip patients preferred
- Charge nurse and Level I trauma experience preferred
- First-time travelers considered only if they have Epic experience
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care for orthopedic, neuro spine, and post-surgical patients requiring close pain management
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
- Weekly orientation provided
- Must complete 8-10 hours of pre-start and annual online learning modules using Chrome or Edge browser
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays; no RTO approved during holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not during a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower pay rate
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying and disclose prior employment details
- Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation and schedules
- Minimum 13-week assignment length, with option for longer contracts
