Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN - Operating Room Circulating Nurse for a day shift position at a small community hospital requiring at least 5 years of OR circulating experience.
Details
- Operating Room setting within a 100-bed community hospital
- Surgical patient population with 1:1 patient ratios
- Uses standard OR equipment
- Charts in EPIC EMR
- 4x9 hour day shifts, 0700-1630, with a rotating day off
- Call requirements include 1 weeknight call per week (1630-0700) and 1 weekend (48 hrs) of call approximately every 6-7 weeks
- Low census floating may be required to assist other units on a 1:1 basis, though not regular
- 25-mile float policy between facilities as needed
Requirements
- Active RN license (ME or Compact) required
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required for call coverage
- Minimum 5 years of OR circulating experience required
- Experience in a smaller facility OR setting preferred
- Experience across multiple surgical service lines needed
- Preferred specialty experience in Ortho, Urology, OB/GYN, General, or ENT
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required
Additional Information
- Serve as an OR Circulating Nurse supporting surgical procedures and patient care
- Team-oriented unit culture where all staff, including travelers, participate in room turnovers and support each other equally
- Scrubs provided by the OR department
- Candidates located within 90 miles of any MaineHealth facility are considered local, which may affect pay rate but not eligibility
- Local travelers are not eligible for renewals or extensions
- RTO should be kept to a minimum, with 3-4 days considered reasonable for a 13-week contract
- Candidates who have worked at any MaineHealth facility within the past 12 months should disclose this at the time of consideration

Pros
This hospital is hands down the least toxic hospital I have ever had the privilege of working. I absolutely love the people I work with. Everyone I come into contact with likes what they do and they do it with passion. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s close.
Cons
It’s a smaller hospital, so there’s a lot of critical care devices (CRRT, ECMO, etc) to work with like level 1 trauma centers have.
