Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care/Float Pool position requiring 2+ years of PCU experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Nursing Float Pool position primarily supporting the ED Holding unit, with additional support for PCU, ICU, Med-Surg, CCU, and Rehab units as needed
- ED Holding unit cares for mixed diagnosis patients with ratios of 1:2 for ICU, 1:4 for PCU, and 1:5 for MS patients
- PCU patient population includes respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and general medical/surgical cases
- PCU ratios are typically 1:4 depending on acuity, with 1:5 ratio when floated to Med-Surg
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Night shift role may include ACLS Transport duties throughout the hospital (ED, CT, MRI, Nuc Med, PACU, Cath Lab, all inpatient units) with transition to ED Holds support after 2300
- Partial shift floating required within scope of practice
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Scheduling provided 3 weeks at a time, approximately 10 days prior to start
- Must call staffing office 30-45 minutes prior to shift to confirm assignment
- No self-scheduling, on-call, or holiday requests
Requirements
- Active WA RN license or compact license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
- Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills
- Experience with chest tubes, lumbar drains, traches, and IV med titration (Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, heparin, Cardene)
- Traveler Telemetry Competency required
- Strong communication and patient teaching/education skills
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care within PCU and support ED Holding, with occasional floating to ICU, CCU, Med-Surg, and Rehab units as needed
- 24/7 support available from Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalists, and Intensivists
- Tech support ratio of approximately 1:10 on PCU
- Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation (login access, modules) and 1 day on assigned unit
- Time off requests approved up to 5 days; additional time off requires added days at the end of the assignment
