Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring travel and Epic experience on an infectious disease unit.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg/Infectious Disease unit with 18 private rooms
- Patient ratios of 1:5-6, or 1:4 for COVID patients
- Typically staffed with 3-4 RNs per shift plus 2 CNAs per shift
- Patient population includes infectious disease, isolation precautions, COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff cases
- No cardiac drips; may titrate Heparin and other standard MedSurg IV medications and antibiotics
- Remote telemetry monitored from a separate floor; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
- Respiratory equipment may include CPAP, BiPAP, or high flow, managed by respiratory therapy (no ventilators)
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour day shifts from 0700-1930 with a half-hour lunch break
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday/Sunday for day shift)
- Floating required to other MedSurg units as needed, with travelers prioritized for floating
- Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs
- Possible low census call-off depending on contract terms
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Travel nursing experience required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Strong knowledge of Med/Surg, infectious disease, and isolation precautions required
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit has 24/7 charge nurse coverage; day charge nurse may take patients if needed, night charge always carries a full patient assignment
- Orientation includes 1 day of EPIC training followed by 1 day with a preceptor on the floor, then independent work on day 3
- Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be royal blue if worn, no hoodies or sweat-jackets allowed
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for travel assignment (100 miles for Princeton Community Hospital)
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are limited to a cumulative one-year work period within WVU facilities before requiring a 2-year break
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
