Description
American Traveler is seeking a hybrid Respiratory Therapist/ECMO Specialist for a NICU and Pediatric Critical Care position requiring RRT/RRT-NPS certification and 4+ years ECMO experience.
Details
- Hybrid role combining Registered Respiratory Therapist and ECMO Specialist duties in NICU and Pediatric Critical Care settings
- Responsible for general neonatal/pediatric respiratory critical care and skillful operation of ECMO systems on critically ill patients
- Will back-fill as Respiratory Therapist when no ECMO assignment is available
- Patient ratio of 1:8
- Epic EMR experience required
- Day shift (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:30) or Night shift (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
- Every third weekend required
Requirements
- BLS and PALS certifications required
- RRT or RRT-NPS certification required
- Valid MA Respiratory Therapist license required (pending license accepted, must obtain during booking)
- License required if applicable
- Minimum 4 years of experience as an ECMO Specialist operating ECMO equipment on patients
- Trauma Level I and Level II experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Prior travel experience required
- Skilled in operating bedside pump, circuit assembly and priming, centrifugal ECMO (not roller pump), centra mag, and mag pumps
- Able to respond to emergencies in less than 10 minutes
- Experience administering blood products and medications, drawing labs from circuit, and managing circuit changes
- Knowledge of clot recognition and response
- Ventilator management experience including BiPAP, CPAP, high frequency jet ventilator, and high frequency oscillator
- Experience with neonatal/pediatric equipment including bubble CPAP, oscillating ventilator, and pressure/volume ventilator
- Skilled in intubation assist, extubation, and airway suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Care experience with ARDS, aspiration, bronchoscopy, COVID, cystic fibrosis, ECMO, fresh tracheostomy, and pneumonia
- Experience with neonatal/pediatric conditions including bronchopulmonary dysplasia, near drowning, respiratory distress syndrome, RSV, and transient tachypnea of the newborn
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) required
- 2 professional references required, verified from 2 of the last 3 places worked at different facilities
Additional Information
- Support patients in NICU, Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatrics, and Emergency Department settings
- Travel with patients and provide support during inter-departmental and ambulance transports
- Participate in pediatric and neonatal transports
- Perform routine ECMO management and equipment operation
- Experience with medication delivery systems including nebulizers, MDIs, and aerosol setups for mask and trach
- Familiarity with medications such as Albuterol, Atrovent, Flovent, Nitric Oxide, Pulmicort, and Racemic epinephrine
- Accepts candidates within a 50-mile radius of the facility at a lower rate
