Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring strong recent ER experience, prior travel assignment experience, and EPIC proficiency.
Details
- Level 2 Trauma Center Emergency Department with 44 unit beds
- High-volume ED with average daily census of 190-200 patients and fast discharge turnover
- Can hold inpatient admissions at times
- Travelers perform bedside triage of ambulance patients
- Patient population includes STEMI, stroke, syncope, weakness, trauma, and falls with a high elderly population
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
- Support staff includes ER Techs (2-5 per shift depending on time of day) and Physician Assistants
- Respiratory Therapy and Anesthesia available 24/7, RT manages ventilators
- 24/7 transporter and phlebotomy support, with RNs drawing blood for IV line placement as needed
- Case managers and social workers available most days from 07:00-23:00
- Special equipment includes arterial lines in trauma, Hospira infusion pumps, and pediatric syringe pumps
- Documentation via EPIC and medication administration via Pyxis
- 12-hour rotating shifts (evening/night) with varied start times including 1p-1a, 3p-3a, 5p-5a, and 7p-7a, must work all listed shift variations
- 36 hours per week over a 13-week assignment
- Every other weekend required
- No floating or charge nurse responsibilities required
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS (AHA only, or ENPC), and NIHSS certifications required
- TNCC certification strongly preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience required, with 2 years in the ED specialty
- 3-5 years of experience strongly preferred
- Prior ER travel assignment experience required, unless candidate has significant ED experience allowing for minimal orientation
- EPIC experience required, must be reflected in work history
- Trauma and pediatric experience strongly preferred
- Strong, superior clinical references required
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring strong critical thinking skills
Additional Information
- Must reside within a 50 mile radius of the facility
- Provide emergency nursing care including bedside ambulance triage, IV starts, venipuncture, and EKGs
- Orientation includes 2 ED shifts (24 hours total) plus 1 shift with an educator (4-6 hours)
- Patient population is well-educated and vocal about care standards, with a major focus on patient experience and nursing excellence
- Scrub attire can be any color, no denim, with professional appearance required
- Non-skid, closed-toe athletic shoes permitted, clogs must have heel strap
- Minimal, professional jewelry with no facial piercings other than ears
- Hair must be neat and pulled back if shoulder length or longer, facial hair must be trimmed
- No gel or acrylic nail polish, polish must be free of chips or cracks
- Holiday coverage required for 1 major holiday
- Manager unable to approve holiday time off requests
- Good teamwork and positive attitude required
