Description
American Traveler is hiring a Surgical ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring Level I trauma and ICU experience, ACLS/BLS certification, and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Acute care Surgical ICU with 13 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, with occasional 1:1 or 1:3
- Common diagnoses include post-surgical, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
- RNs responsible for titrating drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
- Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor support on each shift
- Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at 1:10 ratio
- Intensivist in house approximately 0700-1900 with telemedicine intensivist support and on-call attending overnight
- Respiratory therapy in ICU 24/7 using vents, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Monitor techs on unit, though RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00-7:30
- Weekend requirement of 6 shifts in a 6-week period
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating required; if floated to a lower level of care, traveler takes a full team of 3 patients on Stepdown or 5-6 patients in general medicine
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
- Level I trauma center and ICU experience required
- BSN not required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
Additional Information
- Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours of EPIC and systems training, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and 12 hours with a preceptor on the unit
- No specific scrub color or dress code required
- COVID vaccination not required
- Local candidates accepted; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate
