Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring Level I trauma ICU experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Acute care setting in a 13-bed Surgical ICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 or 1:3
• Common diagnoses include post-surgical, open abdomen, multi-system trauma, and endovascular patients
• RNs required to titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
• Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor support available on each shift
• Nurse aides/patient care techs present at a 1:10 ratio
• Intensivist in house 0700-1900 with telemedicine and on-call attending coverage after hours
• Respiratory therapy in ICU 24/7 with ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP equipment
• Monitor techs present; RNs responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• 12-hour night shifts scheduled 7:00pm-7:30am
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts in a 6 week period
• Holiday requirement of every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating may be required to lower levels of care, taking a full patient team (3 on Stepdown or 5-6 on general medical units)
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• Level I trauma and ICU experience required
• Must be able to pass a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to surgically complex and trauma patients in a Level I trauma ICU
• Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours of EPIC and systems training, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and 12 hours with a preceptor on the unit
• No specific scrub color or dress code required
• Local candidates accepted with adjusted pay rate for those within 50 miles of the facility
• First-time travelers may be considered
