Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN with a NY RN license and Epic experience for a Level 3 trauma center.

Details

  • Work in a 29-bed ED with a 4-bed Behavioral Health unit and 7-bed Fast Track, all capable of swinging to ER beds
  • Level 3 trauma center treating adult and pediatric patients ranging from neonate to geriatric
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5, with ratios occasionally higher depending on patient volume
  • 12-hour evening shift schedule, 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Rotating shift schedule with shift options including 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, and 3p-3a
  • Weekend requirements include at least every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • No floating required
  • Charge nurse responsibilities required
  • Uses Epic documentation system and Pyxis medication system
  • Uses Philips MP40 monitors and Alaris IV pumps
  • Respiratory therapy and anesthesia support available 24/7
  • Nurses manage their own IV starts, EKGs, and respiratory treatments
  • May be responsible for boarded patients including medical/surgical, long-term care, psychiatric, and patients awaiting admission or outsourcing

Requirements

  • Active NY RN license, or proof of application with applied date, required at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
  • TNCC must be active or proof of enrollment provided prior to start
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of specialty experience in Emergency Room required
  • Epic experience within the past 2 years required
  • Charge experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Nurses manage drips prepared by 24/7 pharmacy staff and start their own IVs, with IV therapy support available during certain hours for difficult starts
  • Nurses perform their own EKGs, with CA II staff trained to assist as needed
  • Respiratory treatments are administered by nursing staff
  • Advanced practice providers are typically staffed on the unit from 8a-11p in staggered shifts
  • CNA/PCT and unit clerk support staffed each shift, along with crisis clinicians from 7a-11p
  • Orientation is 20 hours for short contracts and 24 hours for 13-week contracts
  • Dress code requires navy blue or white scrubs, closed-toe shoes, clean-shaven facial hair, and no artificial nails
  • Strict zero-tolerance policy for cell phone or earbud use while working
  • Holiday coverage required
  • No block scheduling available under any circumstances
  • Public transportation is not accessible in the area; reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended
  • All-season or snow tires recommended for vehicles during November through April
  • Local candidates accepted
  • Radius-based pay tiers apply based on direct-line mileage from the facility
