Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring 2 years of cardiac/stepdown experience and both Kansas and Missouri or compact RN licensure due to float requirements.

Details

  • 26-bed PCU/SICC caring for thoracic, vascular, and post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients transferring out of CVICU
  • Patient population includes CABG, valve replacement, aortic aneurysm repair, esophagectomy, thoracotomy/VAT, carotid endarterectomy, TAVR, and amputation patients with multiple comorbidities
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts per 6-week schedule, combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • Charge RN assignments and holiday shifts as needed per unit
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • No on-call requirement
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • 456 staffed bed tertiary care hospital

Requirements

  • Active RN license - both Kansas and Missouri, or compact license, required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience required, including a full year within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
  • Required skills include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response team utilization, pacemaker management, pre/post cardiac cath and surgery care, TAVR, TR Band, insulin drip titration, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip titration, PCA management, chest tube management, oxygen therapy, tracheostomy care, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac management
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

  • Provide post-operative care to complex cardiothoracic and vascular surgery patients with multiple comorbidities including advanced heart failure, end-stage renal disease, and diabetes
  • Manage chest tubes, epicardial wires, temporary pacemakers, wound vacs, multiple IV drips, telemetry, central venous access, dressing changes, blood product administration, and epidural/PCA pain management
  • Work at a 5-time Magnet designated, teaching, Level I Trauma hospital
  • Navy scrub color required

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

  • Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time-off requests finalized at time of consideration
  • Previous BJC/Saint Luke's employees must have a 3-month break in service after 18 months of tenure, or wait 1 year if transitioning from a permanent role
