Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced PACU RN for a 13-week acute care contract requiring pediatric recovery experience and ND or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Level 2 Trauma Center PACU with 15 beds
- Covers both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, or 1:1 for pediatric or higher acuity patients
- Mixed patient population including daily pediatric cases and patients with disabilities requiring sensitive care
- Handles all OR cases except transplant
- Must recover vented patients on pressors or requiring blood products
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Mixed 8 and 10-hour day shifts with varying start times
- On-call requirement of 1-2 nights per 6-week schedule, up to 8 shifts total
- 24 hours of weekend call required per 6-week schedule
- Holiday call as needed during contract
- Call response time of 30 minutes
- Travelers float first, typically to inpatient units as helping hands, sitters, or for Phase 2 comfort care
- Charge nurse present each shift and occasionally takes an assignment; travelers not utilized in charge role
- Nurse aide support sometimes available in the department
Requirements
- Active ND or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 3 years of PACU experience preferred
- Must be able to recover pediatric patients
- Must be willing to second-phase patients out of the OR
- Experience reading telemetry strips required
- Experience with ventilated patients on pressors or receiving blood products preferred
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide post-anesthesia recovery care for a mixed adult and pediatric surgical population
- Scrubs provided by the facility
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days in PACU plus a buddy call during the first weekend
- Success in this role favors kindness, efficiency, teamwork, and a willingness to help others
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront for the 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
