Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU Float RN with strong Medical/Surgical ICU experience to cover an ICU/MOSU unit while floating to MS Tele and ED Holds.

Details

  • ICU/MOSU unit (Multi-Operational Service Unit) with 5 beds, licensed to care for any acuity level
  • Patient ratios of 1:2 for ICU patients, 1:3 for MedSurg patients, flexing to 1:4 tele when no ICU patients present
  • Common diagnoses include vasoactive drip management, vent weaning, unstable CHF, sepsis, non-complex seizures, NSTEMI, A-fib, pneumonia, pleural effusions, PE, and DKA
  • Performs or assists with procedures such as bronchoscopies, central line insertion, intubations, thoracentesis, paracentesis, pericardiocentesis, femoral art line insertion, CT pigtail/large bore, LP, and temporary hemodialysis catheter placement
  • Floats to MedSurg and possibly to MICU at the main campus, with an expectation of approximately 50% time in non-ICU settings
  • Uses Cerner EMR and Phillips telemetry monitoring, requiring EKG interpretation skills
  • 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p)
  • 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage based on unit needs
  • Charge nurse and resource nurse support available, with 1 tech per shift shared with MedSurg
  • Hospitalist coverage during the day, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and a SWAT RN team for rapid response and PICC lines
  • 2-shift floor-specific orientation provided

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Strong general Medical/Surgical ICU experience required
  • Proficiency with vasoactive drip management required
  • Must be able to work independently, as there may be times only one RN is on the unit with a resource nurse and tech
  • Must pass an Advanced Dysrhythmia exam prior to contract (2 attempts allowed)
  • Must pass a Day 1 SIMs Lab competency test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to ICU, MedSurg Tele, and ED Hold patients, adjusting care level as patients are upgraded or downgraded
  • Maintain sterile technique for procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, as competency is strictly evaluated
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Strong teamwork and a positive, no-pass-culture attitude expected
  • First-time travelers may be considered if they meet experience and competency requirements
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • If floating, the float zone city center is used to determine the radius requirement
