Description
American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a high-volume Level III NICU-supported unit requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and prior travel assignment history.
Details
- 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 48 hours per week
- Level III NICU and Newborn Nursery facility with approximately 1,800 deliveries per year
- Averages 4 scheduled events daily including c-sections and versions
- Unit includes 7 labor rooms, 2 triage rooms, 2 OR suites, and 25 Postpartum/Antepartum/GYN/Mother-Baby beds
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 for active labor to 1:3 for cervical ripening and laboring patients, with 3 couplets for Postpartum/Antepartum
- Common diagnoses include PIH, GDM, Pre-Eclampsia, Eclampsia, HELLP, shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, multiples, fetal loss, and cervical ripening
- Rooming-in model for Mother-Baby with L&D and Mother-Baby as physically separate but adjacent locked units
- Weekend rotation requires at least 4 of 8 scheduled weekend shifts
- No mandatory call, though pickup call may be available
- Holiday coverage rotation required
- May float to Mother-Baby, Antepartum, or Postpartum units
- Uses Cerner EMR with Fetal Link, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing
Requirements
- Active RN license (Compact or Maine)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced FHM, and MOAB
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment at a comparably sized and acuity facility
- Skills required include Pitocin titration, fetal scalp electrode placement, cervical exams, epidural assistance, insulin and magnesium drip management, shoulder dystocia management, c-section circulating/baby receiving, neonatal resuscitation, and IUPC placement/monitoring
- Newborn care skills including lactation support and safe skin-to-skin protocol required
- Flu vaccination required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only considered
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive labor, delivery, and newborn care including fetal monitoring, medication administration, and assistance with operative deliveries
- 24/7 support available on unit including charge nurse, CST, anesthesia, house supervisor, respiratory therapy, and OB provider coverage
- Unit secretary and bed flow facilitator support available during dayshift
- Orientation includes 1 day with HR/preceptor, 1 day of OR/PACU training, and 1 day with a preceptor on the contracted shift
- Navy scrubs provided on site, with street clothes worn to and from the facility
- Free on-site parking available
- Candidates must have a permanent address located 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility
- Candidates must not have prior permanent employment history at any Northern Light Health hospital
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
