Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital requiring telemetry and cardiac drip management skills.
Details
- Medical Surgical unit with a high patient turnover surgery population
- Patient diagnoses include ostomy, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, GU conditions, and medical overflow cases
- Patient ratios of 1:4-6
- Night shift schedule (3x12, 1900-0730), with day shift hours (0700-1700) during the first week
- Required to work every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within service line
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with basic telemetry knowledge preferred
- Unit administers Heparin, Lidocaine (pain only), Bicarb, Bivalirudin, and occasionally stable non-titrated Amiodarone drips
- PCAs, epidurals, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) with various irrigation solutions are used
- Special procedures include foley catheter care, CBI, TURPs, and colorectal patient protocols
- Epic EMR used for charting
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (must match permanent residence state for compact)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required, including starting and maintaining IVs
- Central line blood draws and PICC line management experience required
- Peripheral line care and management experience required
- Blood product administration experience required
- Colostomy/ileostomy management and feeding tube care experience required
- Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) experience required
- Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA required
- Cardiac monitoring skills required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Remote telemetry monitoring experience required
- BSN preferred
- Must pass a Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Additional Information
- Work in a Magnet-designated, Teaching Hospital and Level I Trauma Center
- Deliver high-quality patient care while collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- No more than 7 days of RTO permitted during the 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week
- Navy scrub color required
- Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
- Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period, followed by a required 3-month break in service
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Must accommodate facial hair requirements to pass respirator fit testing
