Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Trauma unit, requiring 5 years of experience and a Level I Trauma background.
Details
- Medical Surgical Trauma unit within a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet/Teaching hospital
- Patient population includes geriatric trauma, abuse/violence victims, MVA/MVC, falls, and acute care surgery cases such as appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, and TBI
- Patients transfer from ED, OR, or ICU
- Patient ratios of 1:4-6
- Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
- Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Required to work every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
- EPIC charting system used
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (compact must match permanent residence)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience required in Med/Surg, blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, starting IVs, insulin administration, and PCA management
- Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements required
- Experience with surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, and oxygen administration required
- Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac required
- Previous charge experience and BSN preferred
- CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
Additional Information
- Care for trauma and acute care surgery patients using specialized equipment including lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must have facial hair compliant with fit testing standards or be willing to shave
- No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
- Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius, as no local candidates are accepted
- Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
- Permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
- Travel experience is required for this position
