Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with Level I Trauma experience for a night shift position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital.
Details
- Medical Surgical unit within a Level I Trauma Center treating patients transferred from ED, OR, or ICU
- Patient population includes geriatric trauma (55+), trauma victims (abuse/violence, MVA/MVC, falls), and acute care surgery cases (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)
- Patient ratio of 1:4-6
- Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:30), with option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
- Uses Epic charting system
- Specialized equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (compact must match permanent residence)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
- Minimum 5 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
- Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Skilled in blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin administration, and PCA management
- Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, and ortho trauma required
- Experience with peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacements
- Skilled in surgical drain care and chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- Respiratory skills including CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, and oxygen administration required
- Wound care and wound vac experience required
- Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
Additional Information
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Standard travelers may work up to 18 months total, followed by a required 3-month break in service
- Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or will be expected to shave
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Works in a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital with 1,266 staffed beds
