Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Float Pool position requiring 2+ years of PCU experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Nursing Float Pool position primarily supporting ED Holding, with floating to MSICU, CVICU, PCU, CCU, Medical, Surgical, Flex Unit, and Inpatient Rehab as needed
- ED Holding unit cares for mixed diagnosis patients, including isolation and non-ambulatory patients, in a fast-paced environment
- Patient ratios vary by unit: ICU 1:2, PCU/CCU 1:4, Medical/Surgical 1:5, Rehab 1:8 team model
- PCU patient population includes respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and general ortho cases
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Floating required, including partial shifts, within scope of practice
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Support staff includes techs, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage 24/7
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
- Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and tracheostomy care
- Experience with IV med titration (Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, heparin, and occasionally Cardene) required
- Strong communication and patient education/teaching skills required
Additional Information
- Primary assignment will be in the ED Holding unit per nurse manager direction
- May be required to assist with ACLS transport of patients throughout the hospital, including ED, CT, MRI, Nuc Med, PACU, and Cath Lab
- Night shift ACLS RNs assist in ED Holding after 11 PM when transport volume decreases
- Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation and 1 day on the assigned unit
- Traveler telemetry competency is required
- Must call the staffing office 30-45 minutes prior to each shift for assignment details
- Must arrive on time to the assigned unit, with no clock-in permitted before scheduled shift start
- No holiday requests, self-scheduling, or on-call requirements
- Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
- Schedules are provided three weeks at a time
- Time off requests beyond 5 days require added time at the end of the assignment
- First-time travelers will be considered
