Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and a current AZ or compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care combined acuity Multi Care Unit (MCU) with 10 beds caring for ICU, PCU, and MST level patients
- Ratios vary by acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5-6, or 1:3 primary care if no nurse aide available
- Nurse aides typically care for 10-15 patients when staffed
- Common diagnoses include sepsis, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, and post-op complications
- PCU patients require non-titratable infusions to manage heart rate or blood pressure
- RNs titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Telemetry monitoring in place with Remote Monitor Techs supporting PCU and MST patients
- RNs must be able to read 12-lead EKGs and monitor bedside cardiac monitors for ICU patients
- Respiratory Therapy supports ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment
- 12-hour night shifts, rotating 0700/1900 to 1930/0730
- Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday nights or Saturday/Sunday days)
- Holiday rotation required to distribute coverage fairly
- Low census may require standby rotation
- First to float among staff, including to EC MST & Pediatric unit and West Campus ICU/PCU in Prescott with two hours notice
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required, pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; candidates with 1 year ICU and 1 year PCU/Med-Surg from larger facilities with strong skills may be considered
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across ICU, PCU, and MST acuities within a combined unit
- Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds spanning MST, Pediatrics, and the Acuity Adaptable MCU unit
- Attend hospital and unit-specific orientation
- Any scrub color permitted except camouflage
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year
- Failing the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exam on the second attempt results in a 6-month do-not-use status with CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and the Sacramento region
