Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night-shift Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit position requiring telemetry strip interpretation and vasoactive drip titration skills.
Details
- 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient ratios typically 1:5, occasionally 1:4 or up to 1:6
- Common diagnoses include chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacer, and pre/post cardiac catheterization patients
- Manages patients on Tikosyn therapy and performs groin checks/radial band management (does not pull sheaths)
- 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week guaranteed
- Must work 4 weekend night shifts per 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat/Sun considered weekend)
- Required to float as needed to Tele or MedSurg units with ratios up to 1:6 or 1:7
- Uses EPIC EMR and Sunrise charting system
- Uses Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors
- RT manages all respiratory equipment including AirVo and Bipap
- 24/7 in-house support from Hospitalist, Intensivist, IV team, RT, and Pharmacy
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
- Acute care Stepdown/IMU experience required
- Unexpired driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Self-scheduling available as long as unit needs are met, with up to 4 requested days off per month
- Floor orientation includes 4 hours with HR followed by 1.5 days on the unit with a preceptor
- Charge nurses carry a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts
- Clinical Assistant support available on the unit
- Navy blue scrub top and bottom required, navy scrub jackets allowed, no hoodies
- Must be flexible for holiday coverage, though holidays are typically covered by permanent staff
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel assignment
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers cannot work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break
