Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Trauma Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit role requiring compact or PA RN licensure and NIH Stroke Scale certification.
Details
- Trauma Stepdown unit (8th Floor) within a Level I Trauma Center hospital
- Neuro Med Surg specialty with adult patient population
- Common diagnoses include CVA, TIA, seizure, inability to ambulate, and occasional cardiac or respiratory conditions
- 22-bed unit with patient ratios of 1:6, up to 1:7 during ED holds
- Uses Mindray vital sign machines, GE EKG, and cardiac monitors
- Epic EMR used for charting
- 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Weekend commitment of 2 of 4 weekends per schedule, or 4 of 8 weekend shift days (straight weekends available if preferred)
- Floating required infrequently, only if needed
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license (Compact or Pennsylvania)
- AHA certifications required, including NIH Stroke Scale (preferred) and Swallow Screen (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Trach and vent experience required
- Neuro nursing experience required
- Competency in dysrhythmia recognition required; dysrhythmia and math dosage test administered on first day of orientation
- Clear pre-employment screenings required prior to start, including PA Child Abuse History Clearance, DHS and FBI fingerprinting, and PATCH State Police Clearance
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to adult patients recovering from stroke, seizure, and related neuro conditions in a stepdown setting
- Weekly orientation held on Mondays
- Study guide and welcome packet provided in advance for dysrhythmia and math dosage testing
- Availability for holiday coverage required, to be confirmed during phone screening
- Scrubs of any color accepted; hoodies, t-shirts with wording or images, and facial piercings not permitted
- Candidates must reside 60 miles or greater from the facility to qualify for the travel rate
- Local candidates within 60 miles may be considered at the local rate
- Cannot have worked as permanent staff at any LifePoint facility within the past 12 months
- Cannot be employed elsewhere full-time while on assignment
