Description

American Traveler is hiring an Emergency Department RN for a high-acuity, high-volume Stroke and STEMI Center requiring CA RN licensure and stroke care experience.

Details

• Work in a high acuity, high volume Emergency Department with approximately 230 visits/day and 36 beds plus overflow units
• 1:4 patient ratio
• Treats all ages with a focus on geriatric and adult patients; approximately 10% pediatric patients who are transported to CHOC as needed
• Case load includes respiratory, stroke, abdominal pain, cardiac, and sepsis patients
• Designated Stroke and STEMI Center within a Magnet-designated facility
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
• Must be available to work weekends, which may exceed every-other-weekend and require at least 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule cycle
• Floating required to Tele Hold and ICU Hold units as needed
• No on-call requirement
• Charting system is Meditech; Epic experience highly preferred

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required (compact license must be in hand at time of consideration)
• Minimum of 1.5 years of specialty experience required, with 2 years preferred; if 1.5 years, must include at least 1 year consistently at one facility (not per diem)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Preferred certifications: TNCC, CEN or CPN
• Stroke experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred, though strong candidates without it may be considered
• Limited pediatric experience acceptable
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, starting and maintaining IVs, emergency medications, IV insulin protocols, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation administration/monitoring
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG, and management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Experience with neurological/CVA care, triage, splinting, and isolation precautions/PPE
• Must provide 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting

Additional Information

• Provide emergency nursing care across a wide range of acute and high-acuity cases including stroke, cardiac, sepsis, and respiratory emergencies
• Participate in triage, cardiac monitoring, and emergency response within a Stroke and STEMI Certified facility
• Royal blue scrubs required for RNs
• Free parking provided on-site
• Candidates must live within 50 miles for consideration at the local rate; otherwise travel rate applies
• Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they do not live within 50 miles of the facility
• RTO must be submitted at time of consideration; minimal RTO requests are preferred to avoid delays
• Must be willing to work 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• First-time travelers generally not accepted unless they demonstrate strong experience and skill set
• Facility may float travelers to sister facilities within the region as needed
