Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring 2+ years of general surgery experience and prior travel assignment history.

Details

• Work in the Operating Room unit of a hospital environment
• General surgery and multi-specialty surgical case mix including vascular, gynecology, orthopedic, neurology, urology, podiatry, plastics, and bariatric procedures
• Day shift schedules available as 5x8 hour shifts (0645-1515 or 1045-1915) or 4x10/mixed shifts including 2 D8 and 2 D12 shifts (0645-1915)
• Required to take up to five 12-hour call shifts per six-week scheduling period, primarily on weekends (Saturday 7:00 PM through Monday 7:00 AM) with occasional Tuesday night coverage
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Weekly orientation held on Mondays

Requirements

• Active RN license (MD state license or compact license) in hand
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of general surgery experience required
• Community hospital experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Prior travel nursing assignment experience required
• 2 years of recent experience within the last 7 years required
• Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment
• Must support at least 2 years of experience within the previous 3 years
• Driver's license required to match candidate's address for local status determination

Additional Information

• Provide perioperative nursing care across a wide range of surgical specialties including general, orthopedic, vascular, neuro, urology, and plastics cases
• Proficient in skills such as peripheral IV starts, conscious sedation monitoring, cardiac monitoring, specimen handling, wound management, and universal protocol (time-out) procedures
• Experience with robotics (Da Vinci Xi, Mako Surgical System) preferred
• Scrubs provided
• Flu vaccine required for all employees at this facility
• First-time travel nurses are not eligible; at least one prior travel assignment is required
• Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for a minimum of one year before returning as a traveler
• No requested time off (RTO) permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment, with a maximum of 7 days RTO allowed per 13-week contract
• Local candidates within 60 miles accepted at a lower rate
