Unit: 6N Overflow (Med Surg, Acute Care), 30 beds

Overview

Facility is seeking an experienced Med Surg RN for a 13-week assignment on 6N Overflow, a 30-bed acute care unit. This is a fast-paced floor with a mix of medical and surgical patients, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable with a heavier ratio and flexible scheduling.

Unit Snapshot

• Beds: 30

• Ratios: 1:6 to 1:7. The ratio can reach 1:7 and the RN must be comfortable with this.

• Charge RN: One charge RN on the floor, who also carries an assignment

• Support staff: PCTs on the unit

• Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely by monitor techs

• Respiratory: No vents; intermittent BiPAP

• Drips: RNs titrate heparin per aPTT results

Typical Patient Population

CHF, COPD, cellulitis, rule-outs, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, pneumonia, urosepsis, AKI

Schedule

• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts

• 36 guaranteed hours per week

• Weekends scheduled as needed, usually about half of the total weekends

• No call or standby

• Floating: As needed based on census. Travelers float first.

Requirements

• Active RN license (see licensing note below)

• 2 years of recent Med Surg or acute care experience

• BLS (AHA)

• Comfortable ratios

• Able to titrate heparin per protocol

• Telemetry experience preferred

• BSN not required

Other Details

• Scrubs: Navy blue

• Orientation: No formal orientation hours available

• Cancellation policy: 2 shifts per 13-week contract
