Opportunity:

PCU/IMC Float

Job Details:

• Night shift position working 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• 6-9 weekend shifts required in a 6-week schedule
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• Schedule is released 4-6 weeks in advance by leadership; travelers must be flexible to help fill gaps in permanent scheduling
• All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting assignment
• Traveler cannot miss more than 3 shifts in a 13-week contract; shifts can be made up at the front or back end of requested time off
• Rare on-call or standby requirement for low census situations
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment or 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
• Must float within Zone 1 (based around Colorado Springs, CO) covering a 60-mile radius; traveler is responsible for obtaining housing that makes floating throughout the full zone feasible
• Schedules follow one of two formats: assigned to a single facility for the week with floating within that facility as needed, or Just-In-Time (JIT) where facility is assigned 1-2 hours before shift start via call
• Float pool covers multiple PCU/IMC units across various specialties including General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Observation
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4 dependent on acuity
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including Cardiac, Neuro, Ortho, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery, Gynecology, Psych/Detox, ENT, and General Medicine
• Must be comfortable titrating and managing cardiac drips, insulin, Ativan, and heparin
• Common drips include Dopamine, Dobutamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Ativan, insulin, and heparin
• May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• Nurse aides available on unit
• RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP present on unit
• 1-2 days of orientation with a preceptor provided
• Charting system: EPIC; prior Epic experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/IMC experience required; prior neuro experience preferred
• Must have experience with cardiac drips, insulin, and Ativan
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Any color scrubs permitted
• BSN not required

The network includes several hospitals offering a wide range of specialty services across PCU/IMC units covering General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedic, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation care. The organization utilizes EPIC as its charting system and maintains dedicated charge nurses on each unit to support clinical staff and ensure high-quality patient care.
