Description
Requirements:
- Active RN license in state of practice (or compact license as applicable)
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
- RNC-MNN (Maternal Newborn Nursing) certification preferred
- 1+ years of mother baby/postpartum experience required
- Experience with postpartum maternal care and newborn assessment
Duties:
- Provide couplet care to postpartum mothers and their newborns following vaginal or cesarean delivery
- Assess maternal recovery, including fundal checks, lochia, and incision/perineal care
- Perform newborn assessments, including vital signs, feeding, and screening tests
- Support and educate mothers on breastfeeding, infant care, and bonding
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders for mother and baby
- Monitor for postpartum complications (hemorrhage, infection, preeclampsia) and escalate care as needed
- Educate patients and families on newborn care, safety, and discharge instructions
- Collaborate with OB physicians, pediatricians, and interdisciplinary team on plan of care
- Accurately document maternal and newborn assessments, interventions, and response in the EMR
- Support families through the transition to parenthood, including emotional and educational support
