Travel RN Opportunity – Labor & Delivery

Location: Smyrna, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery


Facility & Unit Overview

  • Unit: Women’s Services
  • Beds: 9 Labor & Delivery, 3 swing rooms, 2 ORs, 3 bed OBED
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2
  • Staffing: Unit secretary and scrub tech available; dedicated CRNA and midwife in-house 24/7; OBGYN on call
  • Documentation Systems: CPN and Meditech
  • Scheduling: Requires 4 weekend shifts per month
  • Floating Policy: May float to mother/baby or outside departments for tasks
  • Patient Experience Goal: Maintain above 75% satisfaction

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN certification preferred

Skills & Experience

  • Commitment to providing the highest quality care to laboring patients
  • Support patient choice and promote vaginal birth opportunities based on patient preference
  • Advanced skills helpful: Spinning Babies techniques, STABLE program knowledge
  • Procedures performed on unit include: circulating in OR, intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC), fetal scalp electrode (FSE), magnesium sulfate administration, postpartum hemorrhage management (JADA system), nitrous oxide use

  • Laborist team model with 24/7 midwives and dedicated CRNA; OB on call
  • Personalized birth experiences tailored to patient needs and preferences
  • Couplet care in postpartum unit to keep newborns bedside with mothers, promoting breastfeeding and donor milk availability
  • 8-bed Level 2 NICU with Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage 24/7; NNP attends all high-risk deliveries
  • Recognized as HCA Unit of Distinction 2021
  • TIPQC Pilot hospital for NTSV (Nulliparous Term Singleton Vertex) and Team Birth initiatives

Dress Code

  • Uniform: Hot pink and black preferred; black bottoms acceptable, hot pink tops preferred

Contract Length

  • Approximately 13 weeks
