Description

Travel RN - Emergency Department

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Department: Emergency Department
  • Beds:
    • 4 beds in Annex (secure locked psychiatric area)
    • 25 procedure rooms (with curtains or doors)
    • 8 hallway beds (utilized 24/7)
  • Staffing: 88 staff members (various job titles)
  • Shifts:
    • 7a-3a: 1 Charge RN, 7 RNs, 3 ED Techs, 2 RP; Annex: 1 RN, 1 ED Tech
    • 3a-7a: 1 Charge RN, 6 RNs, 2 ED Techs, 1 RP; Annex: 1 RN, 1 ED Tech
  • Patient Ratios: 4:1 (flexible during acute surge)
  • Equipment: Ultrasound IV skills, Lucas Device, Hotline Rapid Infuser, Alaris pumps, Pyxis
  • EMR Systems: Sunrise, Allscripts
  • Patient Population: Multiple comorbidities including complicated heart conditions, DKA, Sepsis, Trauma, Stroke

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years Emergency Department (ED) experience
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, MOAB, TNCC (must have for contract labor)
  • Strong communication skills with patients and peers
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Dependability and punctuality
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year ED experience for permanent HCA staff
  • Strong understanding of EKG interpretation

  • Orthopedic trauma
  • Ultrasound-guided IV insertion
  • IO insertion
  • Eye exams
  • EKG interpretation
  • Psychiatric care
  • Cardiopulmonary care

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Motivated, hard-working, creative problem solver with a desire to help and care for patients
  • RN’s work with policy-written protocols based on chief complaint
  • Able to order labs, EKGs, x-rays, medications (protocol-based) to initiate patient care
  • Dress code: Scrubs only; no hooded shirts or sweatshirts for safety
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend for contract RNs

Certifications Required

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, MOAB, TNCC (mandatory for contract labor)
