Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Labor and Delivery)
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery
- Experience: Minimum 2 years current experience in Labor and Delivery
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- On-Call: 2 shifts per 6-week schedule period
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month
- Nurse-Patient Ratio:
- Labor: 1:2
- Postpartum/Couplets: 1:8
- Float: Required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC, actual cert required (no screenshots/photos)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC, actual cert required
- AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) or NCC for Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - must be current and completed within 2 years if AWHONN
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) - actual downloaded certification required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - actual cert required
- Other preferred or unit-specific certifications may include: PALS, CHEMO, OCN, TNCC, CPI (check unit description)
Competency Exams and Testing
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or online, required within 12 months)
- Competency Exam (required)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all RNs except L&D, Psych, LTC, Mother-Baby/Couplet Care/Postpartum, Transitional Care)
- Core Competency Exams Part I, II, III (required annually, minimum 80% pass rate)
Health and Background Requirements
- Physical Exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA
- Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; chest x-ray if prior positive
- TB Questionnaire (required)
- Immunizations/Vaccines:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B - vaccine series, titer, or declination
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Flu Vaccine for 2025-26 season (required, no declinations accepted; exemptions only for medical/religious reasons with documentation)
- Drug Testing within 45 days of start (includes a comprehensive panel with MRO signature)
- Background Check within 45 days of start, including 7-year history and multiple state/federal checks; alias name attestation required if applicable
Additional Information
- Travelers requesting time off during holidays (Valentine's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day) will not be accommodated.
- Photo for badge required (passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings).
- References: 2 supervisory references from past 3 years required.
- Employment application must include 7-year work history with no unexplained gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist specific to unit required within the last year.
This position requires a highly qualified Labor and Delivery RN with current certifications and experience, ready to commit to a 13-week travel contract in Knoxville, TN.
