Travel/Contract Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Assignment in a Stepdown unit with potential to float to related units including Emergency Department.
• Rotating shifts: 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm (3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts). Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital needs.
• Must work at least every other holiday.

Required Experience

• Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel.
• Minimum 18 months recent Stepdown experience (travel experience counts).
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Valid Ohio RN license or Compact State RN license in hand.
• Current certifications required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication exam must be passed during orientation.

Orientation & Testing

• Baseline competency exams on medication administration and ECG interpretation at orientation.
• Passing scores: 90% for medication exam, 80% for ECG exam.
• Remediation and retake opportunities provided if needed.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
• Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tdap (every 10 years)
  • TB screening (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT within 12 months) or chest X-ray if past positive.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titers.
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer.
  • Hepatitis B - titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions must be approved).
• Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
• Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Background & Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Background check including 7-year FCRA compliant search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually.
• Fingerprints must be completed under nursing code 4723.09. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
• NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
• Employment application with 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years clinical acute care practice in a similar area.
• Two professional references from within 1 year of start required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
• Candidates may be required to float to other units caring for similar patient populations.
• Must be able to work rotating shifts and holidays as scheduled.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
• Stepdown unit experience
• Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS certification
